How to Finish Better in Darts

How to Finish Better in Darts

Matches are won on doubles.

You can score heavily all leg, but if you miss three darts at a double, momentum shifts instantly. Improving your finishing in darts separates average players from reliable league winners.

Why Players Miss Doubles

Common reasons:

  • Rushing
  • Tight grip
  • Changing rhythm
  • Fear of missing

See how blog post on: Common Dart Throw Mistakes

Finishing is technical and mental.

1. Practice Doubles Only

Pick one double.
Stay on it until you hit it.

This builds mental resilience.

Better yet:
Play Bob 27 great for pressure.

2. Use the 121 Checkout Drill

Start on 121. You get 9 darts to finish. If you fail, stay on 121.

If you hit it, go up to 122 and keep progressing. If you fail at any point you go back to 121.

If you hit it within 3 that number becomes your new stop number. For example if you take 124 out in 3 you progress to 125, if you fail 125 you go back to 124 not 121

This simulates match pressure.

See how far you climb, You can play this with multiple people too.

3. Aim Small

When throwing at a double:
Pick a specific wire section.

Smaller focus equals tighter grouping.

4. Stay With Your Natural Throw

Do not change grip or pace on a finish.
Trust the throw that got you there.

5. Develop Checkout Knowledge

Know common finishes, not only that but know when you've missed what you're going for what you have left as rhythm in a throw is key.

This builds confidence.

Final Thought

Doubles practice should be part of every session. Finishing is not luck. It is repetition and calm under pressure.
